Readings

As part of the marriage rite, one may choose to have either one or two readings, in addition to the Gospel reading which your presider will select.

If you choose to have one reading, you may select one from either the Old Testament or the New Testament.

If you choose to have two readings, you should select one from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament.

If you’d like a friend or family member to proclaim these readings during your wedding, please include their names below. Otherwise, we will be happy to read them for you.

The Unity Candle

The unity candle is an optional part of the wedding ceremony. Unity candles are often lit by the bride and groom from two separate family candles, representing the union of your families and the fact that you and your fiance are creating a family of your own. Often your mothers light the family candles, and then you two each hold your family's candle to light the unity candle together.

The Prayer of the Faithful

During the wedding ceremony, the community celebrates a love that is meant to touch many people. So it is fitting that the first Christian service you undertake as a married couple is to pray for those in need of God's love and healing. The Prayers of the Faithful include intercessions for the Church, for peace in the world, for you as a new couple, for the sick and those unable to be present, and for any deceased family members and friends which you can indicate below. Please choose one of the two versions of the prayers of the Faithful, J1 or J 2 as below:
