Statement From U.S. Provincials
The provincial ministers of the seven OFM provinces in the United States have released the following statement condemning the recent violence in Charlottesville, Va.

As followers of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron of peace, we, the Franciscans Friars of the United States, join with the many public and religious leaders and fellow-citizens who have condemned the recent violence in Charlottesville, Va.
We hold that all forms of racism, white supremacy, neo-Nazism, xenophobia and hatred are wrong. Because we believe that every person is created by God in love, we also hold that disrespect or diminishment of -- or violence against -- anyone offends not only that person, but also the One who created that person.
As Franciscans, we strive to be bridge-builders. To avoid future instances of the tragic violence that tore not only the community of Charlottesville but also the fabric of our nation, we call for a renewed commitment to respectful dialogue by all, whereby our opinions and differences can be shared in constructive and illuminating ways that lead to the possibility of growth and conversion for all. Such dialogue might lead us beyond the overt displays of violence and intolerance into an understanding of the subtler and even unconscious forms of discrimination and intolerance that may still inhabit our hearts as well as our society.
We commit ourselves to the responsibility of respect for and dialogue with all who seem "other" than ourselves. And we pray that all the citizens of our nation will join in striving to attain respect and peace in our communities.

Dear Saint Mary’s Family,

My beloved sisters and brothers:
On behalf of Fr. Richard, Deacons Hal and Tom, all Saint
Mary’s Staff and myself, I want to invite you again to give
thanks to our Lord for the gift of our brothers Fr. Frank and Fr. Joe, who have served our parish with dedication, love and a good sense of humor. Inspired by the Holy Spirit and following the example of Francis of Assisi, they used the many talents God has given them to build His Kingdom.

Please join us next Sunday, August 20, to say bye bye to our
brothers at the 12 Noon Mass, followed by a reception at the
Carnevale Center. ¡Nos vemos el próximo fin de semana!
Lord, deepen in us our love for You today, so that in all
things we may find our good and the good of others!
Your brother and servant in Christ, in the spirit of Francis of
Assisi, Padre Gonzalo

Greetings from Fr Gonzalo
Greetings from Fr Gonzalo
Greetings from Fr Gonzalo

Dear Saint Mary's Family,

My beloved sisters and brothers:

It is a great honor for me to send my first message as your new servant/pastor. I have been entrusted with the great responsibility of leading you as we continue to build the Kingdom of God here at Saint Mary's. I beg Almighty God to show us His ways!

For more than a century, since the foundation of our home by the Franciscan Friars in 1906, Saint Mary's has been known as a place of welcoming, fraternity and discipleship. People well know how busy we are here, taking care of God's children.

As we continue our mission as Franciscan disciples, I appeal to your generosity to reach our goal for our Annual Fund. So far, this year 489 people have made a gift toward our goal of $250,000. To date, we have raised $170,368. This annual fund is vital to the operation of the parish and it helps accomplish so many things that we might not otherwise be able to do. If you've never made a gift to the Annual Fund, or if it's been a while since your last gift, please consider a gift of $25 or more this year. If you have already given this year, thank you for your generosity! Giving details may be found by following the link below.

Thanks to your generous sharing of God's blessings, we can support our ministries. For instance, giving to the Annual Fund enables us to launch new ministries that respond to the needs of our parish such as the Good Works Gang, Saint Mary's new adult, team-based outreach. This ministry not only touches the lives of those served but also has an impact on those serving. In the words of Bill Shafer, a volunteer from our first team project where over 91 boxes were packed for a parishioner's relocation move: "It was truly my honor to work with an amazing group!! My perspective of the experience is our discipleship in action to serve our community. To see the pure joy in the recipient's eyes and hear her say, 'No one ever helped me like this before and even though I will not remember your names, I will never forget all of you.'" That is God's will in action. We all became the hands and voice of our Savior Jesus Christ!

Your brother and servant in Christ in the spirit of Francis of Assisi,

Padre Gonzalo

Faith Direct

As you are probably aware, church attendance during
the summer months tends to drop off as vacations and
weekend sporting events often conflict. On the other hand,
the services we provide within the parish and for the larger
community continue year round, as do their associated
expenses. Thus, your consistent financial support of our
parish is vital to achieving our stewardship mission.
The easiest way to be sure that your gift of treasure reaches
us, even when you can’t be here, is through enrollment in our
electronic offertory program: Faith Direct. If you have not
yet enrolled, please consider doing so this month.

Enroll today!   www.faithdirect.net and use our parish code NJ23.

Thank you in advance for your support and for using Faith Direct!
