Ministers who go to the Hospital and Nursing Homes

Please call the Parish Office if you will NOT be able to

JANUARY IS HUMAN TRAFFICKING AWARENESS MONTH

Women's Rights Team
JANUARY IS HUMAN TRAFFICKING AWARENESS MONTH

During New Year’s Day Mass, Pope Francis urged people of all religions and cultures to unite to fight modern slavery and human trafficking and declared that everyone has a God-given right to be free.

The Pope said “All of us are called (by God) to be free, all are called to be sons and daughters, and each, according to his or her own responsibilities, is called to combat modern forms of enslavement. From every people, culture and religion, let us join our forces.”

In November 2014, the Walk Free Foundation, an Australian-based human rights group, released the second global slavery index. It indicates that almost 36 million people are living as slaves, trafficked into brothels, forced into manual labor, victims of debt bondage or born into servitude.

Members of the Women’s Rights Team have had the opportunity to learn about human trafficking and work toward ending modern slavery by joining forces with various non-profit organizations that are focused on human trafficking and special interest groups that have a passion and mission to end this scourge.
Doing so has enabled us to be inspired and empowered by working with local and international people of various religions and cultures, as Pope Francis has urged all to do. We will continue to do so and urge you to join us in this crucial battle against injustice.

If you would like additional information about how you can get involved with this effort please contact us at 973 653-9728 or Women's Rights Team

Become a Lay Franciscan
St. Francis welcomed lay people into the Franciscan family and wrote a rule from which they could draw inspiration and order for their Franciscan life. They were originally called Brothers and Sisters of Penance and later The Third Order.

For nearly 800 years, Lay Catholics have made a life commitment and become members of what is now called The Secular Franciscan Order [“secular” meaning we are embedded in the world]. There are some 15,000 Catholic Secular Franciscans in the U.S. and about 400,000 around the world.
Men and women of St. Mary’s fraternity of seculars meet
once a month, usually the second Tuesday - join us. All are
welcome!
