Corpus Christi
This year, the feast of the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ will be celebrated on the weekend of June 1/2. This offers us the occasion to celebrate our belief in the Real Presence of the Lord in the Eucharist.
The feast traditionally has been a time for parish processions and
adoration. At the conclusion of the 12:00 noon mass, we will bless the assembly with the Eucharist in a monstrance and then go in procession, carrying the Blessed Sacrament, to the Memorial Garden (or the Prayer Room if it’s bad weather). The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed in the monstrance until the 5:00 PM Mass. This will be a wonderful opportunity to spend some quiet time in prayer and reflection. We will conclude with a procession to church for 5:00 PM Sunday mass.
All are welcome to be part of either procession and then spend a few minutes or an hour in prayer. The prayer during the time between the two masses will be private and quiet, but perhaps we might all remember young people of the parish discerning life decisions.
The day is also a time to celebrate the Eucharist as the center of our Catholic faith. Each time we gather as a faith community, each of us takes part in the Liturgy.
The liturgical ministers (music makers, readers, servers, communion ministers, ushers) are all certainly visible with their special ministry. Those who clean or decorate the church, those who wash and iron the linens, may not be
visible but they, too, are essential.
~INVITATION~
On this feast of the Blessed Sacrament, we invite all our liturgical ministers for a “pot-luck” dinner. Bring your
favorite dish and we will share together whatever is provided. The Parish will provide some wine, beer and soft drinks.
We will gather in Downey Hall at 6:00 PM and begin our meal at 6:30 PM. This gathering is simply a time to share with one another in a relaxed atmosphere. The Lord says, “Come, eat of my bread, drink of my wine. Come to the feast I have prepared for you.”
