 Reluctant Saint
Witness a remarkable life journey, from common man to saint. Here is a Francis who transcends the image of the peaceful lover of nature. Go beyond the legend and discover a man who lived in a world much like our own, filled with violence and upheaval. A man who played many roles: wealthy son, soldier, businessman, preacher, defender of the poor, and a rebel who never hesitated to speak the truth to the powerful. Based on the biography of St. Francis by Donald Spoto, the film offers new insights into a life that has engaged the hearts and minds of millions over the centuries.

Molokai, The Story of Father Damien

To deal with the leper problem in the Hawaiian Islands in 1872, sufferers were relentlessly exiled to Molokai, a barren isle off the coast. There they lived in miserable surroundings, abandoned by the outside world. To alleviate their fate, Father Damien was the first priest to go to Molokai. His bishop’s last words were that “he must not touch anyone.” Little by little Damien earned the trust of the lepers and eventually, his appeals for nuns and supplies resonated throughout the world. Even when Damien himself got sick his energy did not abate, and he carried on his work for the well-being of his “fellow lepers.” The movie stars Peter O’Toole, Kris Kristofferson, Sam Neill, and David Wenham

Saint Mary’s Prayer for Discipleship

Blessed are You, Lord God of all creation,
In Your goodness You have created us,
In Your mercy You have redeemed us,
And in Your every loving Wisdom
You sustain us with your Spirit.
You have given us the gift of faith,
the gift of Saint Mary’s community,
and the gift of Your call to be Your disciples.
We beg You now for the gifts of:
Enlightenment
that through our PRAYER we may know Your holy and true command;
Discipleship
that we may SERVE the needs of the community and not simply our own; and,
Gratitude
that we may give of ourselves for the good of all.
May we discover what is ours to do and
may we do good works each day for the sake of Your Kingdom. Amen.

2016 Annual Fund
Pray Serve Give
Pray Serve Give

It's been a month since we launched the 2016-2017 Annual Fund and we have already raised $93,049.00.   If you’ve already made a gift, thanks!

Your gift helps all our ministries like St. Mary's High School Youth Ministry. We offer a great opportunity for youth to meet other youth and grow in their faith. Through retreats such as Emmaus and Antioch, youth have the chance to reflect on their lives and their relationship with God and then share their faith with others. In addition to retreats, youth participate in our various service opportunities such as Nazareth Farms, St. Francis Inn and Mt. Irenaeus. Also, our Bridges runs require students to make sandwiches and deliver them to the homeless. They also spend time together socially at our weekly Movie Nights on Wednesday evenings. This mix of social, spiritual and service programs allow our youth to become better disciples.

Saint Mary’s Hispanic Youth Group
This is a new group (in Spanish/Bilingual) for young people between the ages of 13 and 18 who want to grow in their faith, by serving the community, and working as a team with other young people, according to the Catholic and Franciscan charisma of our parish. We invite young bilingual Latinos and non-Latinos to participate every Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Carnevale Center (second floor).
