The Holy Land is often referred to as the Fifth Gospel, for to walk where Jesus walked, to be where He taught and performed miracles adds a new dimension to the written Word of God.
Our Parish Mission will focus on the holy places of our faith; Fr. Joe will share his experience of the Fifth Gospel.

THE FRANCISCAN FRIARS OF THE HOLY NAME PROVINCE

Dear Community of St. Mary’s,
Your warm welcome for me as I came to speak to you about our annual Franciscan Challenge this past weekend was another example of the wonderful Franciscan hospitality for which you are known.
Your care and support of the Franciscan Friars who serve you now, and those to come in the future, is evidence of the love you have for those who have served in the past.
Thank you for your participation in our Provincial fundraising event. Your gift ensures that the Franciscan spirit will endure in our world and in our church.
Thank you for being a true instrument of peace to all the Friars and to those we serve.
A very special thanks also to Fr. Frank and all the Friars of the parish for sharing their home with me in a wonderful, fraternal way.
Many blessings,
Fr. David Convertino, OFM

Adult Faith Formation
Bible Study

The Book of Genesis - Presenter: Fr. Joe
Genesis, the first book of the Bible, open with the Hebrew word bereshit, which means “in the beginning.” In this book we find the very basic principles of our faith and our beliefs.
We will study Genesis on Mondays during Lent:
February 23, March 9, 16 and 23. Two classes:
8:00 - 9:30 AM in CC 203 & 204
7:00 - 8:30 PM in Catherine Spina Hall

The Joy of the Gospel - Presenter: Fr. Joe
Joy of the Gospel is Pope Francis’ first apostolic exhortation: “The joy of the Gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus. Those who accept his offer of salvation are set free from sin, sorrow, inner emptiness and loneliness. With Christ, joy is constantly born anew. In this Exhortation, I wish to encourage the faithful to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by this joy, while pointing out new paths for the Church’s journey in years to come.”
Come, let us read, study and pray how we can become better evangelizers of the gospel. Two classes on Thursdays:
8:00 - 9:30 AM in CC 203 and 204 [February 19 and 26]
7:00 - 8:30 PM in Catherine Spina Hall [March 5, 12 and 19]

Become a Lay Franciscan
St. Francis welcomed lay people into the Franciscan family and wrote a rule from which they could draw inspiration and order for their Franciscan life. They were originally called Brothers and Sisters of Penance and later The Third Order.

For nearly 800 years, Lay Catholics have made a life commitment and become members of what is now called The Secular Franciscan Order [“secular” meaning we are embedded in the world]. There are some 15,000 Catholic Secular Franciscans in the U.S. and about 400,000 around the world.
Men and women of St. Mary’s fraternity of seculars meet
once a month, usually the second Tuesday - join us. All are
welcome!

The Holy Land is often referred to as the Fifth Gospel, for to walk where Jesus walked, to be where He taught and performed miracles adds a new dimension to the written Word of God.

…On Sunday March 1st 2015 at our 5:00PM Youth Mass, the MEN
AND WOMEN FROM STRAIGHT & NARROW will
join us to celebrate the Liturgy. Straight and Narrow is a human
service agency of the Diocese of Paterson Catholic Charities.
Thanks to the treatment and facilities offered by Straight &
Narrow, these men and women, whose lives were once broken by
addiction, are now on their way to living wholesome and
productive lives as enthusiastic contributors to society. You’ll
hear that optimism, determination and gratitude in the way they
give praise to the Lord.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
--Matthew 11:28

Stephen Ministers help people who feel broken to feel whole again through Christ’s love and healing. Men caring for men; women caring for women. Always confidential, loyal and trustworthy.
Journey from darkness to light; from despair to hope; from sadness to joy.

Operation Starfish
Operation Starfish
Operation Starfish

The tradition of Operation Starfish
continues as we reflect on the belief that alms-
giving isn’t about the size or amount of the gift; each gift—big or mall—is important!

A program that the whole family can participate in, Operation Starfish can teach our children about fasting, almsgiving and prayer and encourage them, and remind us, to offer some loose change at the end of each week.
Thank you for your generosity!
